Chief Justice Adele Hedges has served as Chief Justice of the 14th Court of Appeals since December 2003. She earned another term with her election in November 2008. Previously, she was a Justice on the 1st Court of Appeals, from November 1992 until December 2003.

Justice Hedges has been honored as Appellate Judge of the Year by the Texas Association of Civil Trial and Appellate Specialists.
She is the Coauthor of three West Group Texas Practice Guides, Civil Pretrial, Civil Trial, and Appellate.
Justice Hedges has served as Chair of the Council of Courts of Appeals Chief Justices from September 2006 until September 2007. In that capacity, she oversaw the passage of the Courts of Appeals budgets and obtained funding for statewide e-filing for the Courts of Appeals, the Supreme Court, and the Court of Criminal Appeals.
Justice Hedges serves as chair of the Texas Appeals Management and E-filing System (TAMES) Governance Committee. TAMES will bring e-filing and management of electronic documents to the Texas appellate courts. The Governance Committee is responsible for defining the project guidelines, developing functional requirements, and monitoring the development and implementation of the project.
She is responsible for development of opinion circulation and document management software, designed for and first launched at the Fourteenth Court of Appeals. This software will be implemented in the Supreme Court, the Court of Criminal Appeals, and all fourteen courts of appeals.
Justice Hedges is leading the planning process for the restoration of 1910 courthouse, the new home for the 14th Court of Appeals in 2010.
She is a frequent speaker and writer on the Continuing Legal Education circuit, and is active in the Houston Bar Association and the Texas Bar Association.
Justice Hedges has an outstanding record as a judge who issues prompt opinions, exercises sound legal reasoning, and expresses herself with clear, concise writing.
